Lagrange, IN
It’s June 7th, 2005. Nine days have passed. Thankfully, I can feel my legs again and my new seat is doing wonders. Each day has been better then the last, every dinner more satisfying then the night before. This morning, the Florys, our official traveling fan club, were there to send us off to our next stop, LaGrange, Indiana. The Ohio sun is hot, even at 8:30 in the morning. The sun melts onto the pavement as the dotted lines blur in the distance. As I ride, the steady shifting of my gears is calming. Soon, 10 miles turns into 40 miles and 40 into 50. A couple of rolling hills and some windy roads later, we arrive safely at Mount Zion church in LaGrange. As we passed the third state line of the magnitude of our journey finally began to set in. for those who have not been, Also, Indiana has a startling amount of road kill.
Once everyone arrived to Mount Zion, we all relaxed on coaches in the church. Before dinner, Chris Miller, our gracious host, took us to the Lutherville Lake. Decked out in our spandex and sport bras we swam to the newly installed dock and did an array of cannonballs off the platform. The lake was a nice retreat from our bike saddles. After our refreshing dip in the water, we showered and returned to the church for some food! When we got an array of lasagnas waited for us. Each night I amaze myself with the amounts of food I eat. I don’t think I have ever enjoyed lasagna as much. The garlic bread was the best we have had yet! (And I’ve eaten a lot of garlic bread). so that’s quite an accomplishment.) After I rolled my over-stuffed self out of the chair, Becca and I had water-chugging contests to stay hydrated. Without TV, even the little things entertain us. Lights out came before I knew it. Air-conditioning has never felt so good.
These past nine days have been more incredible then I could have imagined. From the free massages and bike maintenance in Butler to the selfless efforts of the state trooper in Fayette when Jennie got hurt, the people we have met have been amazing. I am so thankful to be here and to have this opportunity. Nine amazing days down, 55 to go.
