"Yuma kind of city!"
We started our day in Chris and Carolyn's great restaurant and hang-out place ("Strikers" it's called.) They treated us once again to a delicious meal by our hosts--the best cinammon rolls I've ever had.

A Benkelman resident named Marty, joined us for the first part of our ride and pointed out some things of interest to those biking with him. After a short time on the road, we left Kansas, but not without having some fun and celebration at the border of "Colorful Colorado." By lunch, we were starting to see some interesting scenery changes--more plateaus and rocks. We lunched in a park where we had easy access to a great milkshake shop and playground.

On the way into Yuma we passed a huge cattle "feedlot" with what must have been thousands of cows crowded together as far as you could see. About three miles from Yuma, Pat D., Courtney, Rich, Sumeet and Rajeev rescued a stranded kitten and brought it into town to find a home for it. A woman near the 7/11 was happy to take it in. Meanwhile, at the "Sev," John was unlucky enough to be the first victim of serious dehydration, and had to spend the night in Yuma County hospital.

Hopefully, we've all learned from his bad luck and we won't have any more hospitalizations! For everyone else, dinner was provided by Doug Sanderson, Yuma's city commissioner, and a very kind man. Everyone (but John) enjoyed showers at the pool and a night of camping in the city park.
